Bring joy to the table

‘Gioie della tavola' is an Italian phrase which translates as 'the joys of the table’

I love this Italian approach to meal times being more than just the food we put in our mouths, but also how we can make our eating environment and dinner tables a joyous place to be.

Hands up 🙋- who eats lunch at their desk in between writing emails and then dinner on the sofa whilst watching Netflix?

So, whether it's actually sitting at the table in the first place and preparing a simple home-cooked meal to enjoy with family / your partner / housemates AND away from all devices; or even just placing some flowers or a lit candle in the centre of it when you eat - make your table (or any environment you eat in) a joyous place to be.

When we take time to eat we're more relaxed and eat more consciously, which means our bodies are in an optimal state for digestion 😋 Plus, the the feeling of joy promotes the release of endorphins - our 'feel good hormones' - which can boost our immune system leading to better wellbeing. Win win 🙌

It’s no coincidence the phrase 'gioie della tavola' exists in a country which includes one of the Blue Zones (the island of Sardinia). The Blue Zones are 5 regions in the world where people live the longest and healthiest lives 💙
