Alcohol-Free Mulled Wine *recipe*

If you love mulled wine, but are going alcohol free this season (or looking to reduce your alcohol intake over the festive period), this recipe is super simple and tastes (and looks) like the real deal! Even though it’s made from cherry juice, not wine, it is a delicious spiced festive drink, so it feels super Christmassy and has the added benefit of being rich in vitamins and antioxidants. Win win. Here’s how to make it:

What you’ll need:

  • Organic Tart Cherry Juice - I use Biona. This is more expensive than standard juices, but has no nasties and is cheaper than a bottle of wine :)

  • 1 Stick of cinnamon

  • 1 Orange

  • 2 Cloves

  • Brown sugar to sweeten (optional)

How to make it:

  • Crush two cloves

  • Grate quarter of the orange and then cut in half

  • Add 500ml of cherry juice to a pan, with the cinnamon stick, crushed cloves and orange zest and place it on a low heat. You can also add some brown sugar if you would like to sweeten the juice (which is quite tart, but similar to red wine)

  • Place a lid on the pan and let it heat on a low heat for 5 minutes for the spices to infuse (do not let it boil)

  • Take off the heat, let it cool slightly then add the juice of half the orange and stir

  • Let it cool slightly before serving into glasses (you can garnish with some orange segments and the cinnamon stick)

  • This recipe will serve two people

And then enjoy the festivities! Have a wonderful Christmas all!
